Analysis of the current situation and influencing factors of unhealthy lifestyle of primary and secondary school students in Guangzhou City
Abstract
Background:
Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors among children and adolescents can lead to adverse health outcomes both in childhood and later life. Understanding the current status and influencing factors is essential for designing effective health promotion interventions.
Objective:
To analyze the prevalence and influencing factors of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors among primary and secondary school students in Guangzhou City.
Methods:
A cross-sectional survey was conducted among [XXX] students from multiple primary and secondary schools in Guangzhou. Data were collected through standardized questionnaires assessing dietary habits, physical activity, screen time, sleep patterns, and other lifestyle behaviors. Sociodemographic factors and family environment variables were also recorded. Statistical analyses, including logistic regression, were used to identify key factors associated with unhealthy lifestyle patterns.
Results:
The study found that [XX%] of students exhibited at least one unhealthy lifestyle behavior. Poor dietary habits (e.g., high consumption of sugary snacks and beverages) and insufficient physical activity were the most common. Factors significantly associated with unhealthy lifestyles included older age (OR = X.X), urban residence (OR = X.X), lower parental education level (OR = X.X), and higher screen time (OR = X.X) (p < 0.05).
Conclusion:
Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are prevalent among primary and secondary school students in Guangzhou City. Targeted interventions focusing on improving diet, increasing physical activity, and reducing screen time are needed. Family and school environments play a critical role in shaping these behaviors and should be included in health promotion strategies.
