Turbidity characteristics and the correlation between turbidity and pH calue, oxygen consumption in the tap water of Guangzhou municipal water supply
Abstract
Abstract
This study investigates the turbidity characteristics of tap water in the Guangzhou municipal water supply system and analyzes the correlations between turbidity, pH value, and oxygen consumption. Water samples collected from various distribution points were tested for turbidity, pH levels, and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) as an indicator of oxygen consumption. Results show that turbidity levels fluctuate seasonally and are influenced by factors such as water source and treatment processes. Statistical analysis reveals a significant correlation between turbidity and oxygen consumption, suggesting that higher turbidity may indicate increased organic matter and microbial activity. Conversely, pH values showed a weaker correlation with turbidity. These findings provide insights into water quality dynamics and underscore the importance of monitoring multiple parameters to ensure safe and reliable municipal water supply.
